Intro

With over 16 years experience, I’ve worked on the studio floor, on location in OB trucks, and spent countless days sat in darkened edit suites offline editing mutli-camera light entertainment programmes, documentaries and short form features.

My staff edit experience was based in onlining: I’m very happy grading as well as FX compositing (nothing much beats a large coffee, half a dozen faces to blur out and making the programme look pretty!).

I can also do actual cuts and dissolves and have done features editing on sports programmes as well as cut corporate and L.E. programmes for broadcast. The latter using tape suite and multi-cam modes on FCP and Avid.

When I’m working on sports programming time is of the essence: using Avid Interplay or FCP connected to shared EVS drives, I’ve been required to turn around 60 second music montages minutes after the final whistle/bell and then to continue editing the highlights.

Lately I've been branching out into software programming under the name of BrightScreenTV and have a couple of applications for Mac, Windows, and iApps. Check out:

Stargazing Live.
BBC2 prime-time live OB.
Location editor on BBC science programme. Quick turnaround required of short features for inclusion in the live show. I also doubled as the VT op during transmission. Schedule meant a heavy workload with little chance of correcting any mistakes that might have happened. Technical support and rigging/de-rigging of the on-site edit suite was entirely my responsibility and I needed to overcome operating at very high altitude (14,000 feet). The project was entirely tapeless which meant I also had to continually deal with file management to free up P2 cards for further filming.

Britain's Secret Slaves.
Post Office Undercover.

With the original footage shot on EXCAM, digibeta, DSLR, and avi and mpg from the undercover cameras this project required a wide range of technical input to make the FCP operate with all formats in the timeline at once. For the online I was required to blur 99.9% of the people featured in the footage as well as grade the footage to look as good and as even as it could.
